Top 5 Kitchen Kettles (2020)
Updated: Jul 9, 2020
Kettles are an essential appliance to any British kitchen whether it be to create the perfect brew, a lovely cup of coffee, or boiling your pasta water. Kettles come in all shapes and sizes (as well as prices!) and sometimes it becomes confusing which one to purchase. Therefore, we've compiled our favourite top five and listed the pros and cons of each. We've created 5 different categories (cheap, quality, precise, efficient, and techy) and chosen our favourite from each.
1) Cheap Kettle
If you're a student, on a low budget, or even elderly, then sometimes a cheap and practical kettle is all you need. For this, we would recommend the Russell Hobbs Adventure Kettle. This kettle is under 20 pounds and is extremely powerful. At 3000W, this kettle is able to heat up water in no time, and doesn't weigh that much. The kettle can hold up to 1.7litres so can easily be used for a family. Inside the kettle there are red markers to signal the water required for different quantities of cups, and has a lime scale filter. The product can also be used for both left and right handed consumers due to its 360 base. However, this kettle has negatives. First, the metal does get hot when boiling water, so you have to be very careful when using this product and second, it is rather loud. Nonetheless, a beautifully designed product from Russell Hobbs.
2) Good Quality Kettle
If you're a family or an avid tea drinker then perhaps you want something a little quieter, more sophisticated and more controllable. Introducing, the Bosch TWK8633GB Styline Collection Cordless Kettle. This fantastic product not only looks stylish, but also has a double-wall, meaning the product doesn't heat up on the outside and noise is very minimal. Because of the 3000w the kettle boils fast, and can be kept warm for up to 30 minutes. The product however is a little smaller at just 1.5L, however for a family of 5 this is still fine! The product is very safe with 3 cut off functionalities (overheat, removal from base and automatic shut off).
3) Precise Kettle
For some consumers, various drinks are consumed which requires various temperatures. Too hot water can 'burn' coffee, whilst herbal infusions need the full 100 degrees. With various different temperatures guides out there, it's nice to have the option to precisely select the temperature required. To do this, we recommend, Aicook's Z1 Electric Kettle. This beautifully crafted product has the ability to select the exact temperature you want (+- 1 degree) and save temperatures in 9 different customisable pre-sets. This kettle also has an inbuilt infuser (if you prefer tea leaves) which is amazing, and allows the water to be kept warm for up to 2 hours. Overall the kettle isn't too loud, however does take a little longer to boil compared to others.
4) Energy Efficient Kettle
Kettles can be an extremely wasteful resource when it comes to electricity. One way of saving bills and saving the planet is by investing in an eco-friendly energy efficient kettle. iKich Glass Electric Kettle is our favourite product for this very category! Firstly, the Kettle only uses 1500W (which is half the usual) meaning less energy is used (in exchange for a longer boil time though). Secondly, the kettle has an auto-off function, which is triggered after 30 seconds of inactivity. Thirdly, the heating elements claim to be used up to 6000 times which means that this kettle doesn't need to be replaced for at least 5 years. Whilst doing all of this, you get to see the water lit up with an LED which is really bright at night! The only downside is that it does take 7 minutes to boil, but that's an easy sacrifice when it comes to saving the bills and planet. This product is also under 25 pounds - Bargain!
5) Techy Kettle
Now, for those that like tea and tech, then this is your kettle! The Smarter iKettle is a truly revolutionary kettle which has some amazing functionality. This product allows consumers to remotely boil water using their beautifully designed app or through Alexa. Within the app you can precisely select desired temperature (ranging from 20-100) and even set alarms to automatically boil (e.g for the morning) via a notification on your phone. (Don't worry the kettle won't boil without your permission!). The kettle, however, can be boiled outside the house using 4G. The kettle even holds 1.8L which is larger than usual (enough for 7 cups off tea at once)
